Transforming Pain into Power: Overcoming Trauma and Shame

  • Do you ever feel overwhelmed by the challenges facing our people and communities?

  • Would you like to deepen your understanding of how unresolved trauma and shame affect our communities?

  • Have you experienced or witnessed lateral violence?

If you work in a First Nations organization alongside First Nations people and want to strengthen your understanding of how to address the impacts of intergenerational trauma, we invite you to register for our upcoming workshop.

Unresolved trauma and shame continue to deeply affect Indigenous peoples around the world.

This workshop explores the effects of trauma and unresolved grief through guided awareness and healing activities. Participants will examine the roots and impacts of lateral violence as a response to oppression, while recognizing culture as a vital foundation for healing.

The training emphasizes safety, trust-building, grief work, and self-care. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of practical and meaningful steps that support healing and wellness on the journey toward restoring balance and wholeness.

Objectives

  • To develop a deeper understanding of trauma and its effects on individuals, families, and communities.

  • To examine the roles of abandonment and shame in the context of trauma and abuse.

  • To explore and engage in meaningful discussion about lateral violence and its impact within Indigenous communities.

  • To support participants in identifying and understanding the essential steps toward healing, including safety, trust-building, and grief work necessary to address and resolve trauma and shame.
